Using your Tools for Small Group Growth

by Tara Wear, SpiritGroups Program Leader Community Director

In service of creating a powerful learning community within your groups, be very mindful of how you talk with your Hosts about the Spiritual Self-Assessment.

This is an incredible tool, with very specific suggestions on ways to develop in the 5 disciplines. Maximize the power of it and coach your Hosts to do the same.

For example, if someone wants to set a goal in the area of Community, they might look at that section of the assessment and see which statement in particular is a challenge for them. They could utilize that information as a guide to setting their goal.

As you work with your hosts on how they coach their members on the assessment, explore how they currently use it. If they are simply and briefly reviewing it in the beginning and then it’s shelved, they won’t get the most out of it.

Having a conversation about ways to use that tool could really make a difference in the level of commitment and attention members give to their own personal growth in the 5 Spiritual Disciplines.
